Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering
Can I buy directly from this website?
No. This site is a product catalogue. Use the Request a quote button on any product page, or contact us, and we will reply with pricing, availability and lead time for your quantities.
Who do you sell to?
We work mainly with security system integrators, installers, distributors and resellers. End users are welcome to contact us and we will point them to a suitable partner.
How do I get a datasheet?
Use the Request datasheet button on the product page, or send us the model number. We send the current datasheet by email.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Products are quoted per project. Tell us the quantities you need and we will confirm pricing and lead time in the quote.
Cameras
Which camera type should I choose?
It depends on the mounting position, the area to cover and whether the camera should be visible. Bullets and turrets suit walls and eaves, domes suit ceilings and vandal-prone areas, fisheye models cover whole rooms, and PTZ cameras follow activity over large areas. Our guide to choosing a camera type compares them.
Is a higher resolution always better?
Not always. More pixels give more detail over a wider area, but also need more bandwidth and storage, and small sensors can struggle in low light. Choose resolution together with the lens and the distance to the subject. See resolution and lens selection.
What does WDR do?
Wide dynamic range balances very bright and very dark parts of the same scene, for example a doorway with daylight behind it. Without it, faces in the doorway can turn into silhouettes.
Do the cameras work with third-party recorders?
Many models support ONVIF profiles for interoperability. Supported profiles are listed in each product's specifications. If you are using a specific third-party system, tell us which one and we will check.
What do the analytics features detect?
Supported analytics differ by model and are listed in the specifications. Deep learning models typically classify people and vehicles, which cuts down false alerts from moving trees, shadows or animals.
Recording & storage
How much storage do I need?
Multiply the bitrate of each camera by the hours recorded per day and the number of days you need to keep, then add a margin. Our NVR sizing guide explains the calculation step by step.
What is the difference between an NVR and a hybrid DVR?
An NVR records IP cameras only. A hybrid DVR also accepts analog cameras over coaxial cable, which helps when you want to move to IP gradually.
Do I need RAID?
RAID protects recordings when a single drive fails. It is strongly recommended for recorders with several drives and for any site where losing footage is not acceptable.
Can I view cameras remotely?
Yes. Recorders and management systems support remote viewing through a client or browser. Plan for the upload bandwidth at the recording site, and keep remote access secured with strong passwords and up-to-date firmware.
Installation & PoE
What is PoE and do I need it?
Power over Ethernet sends power and data over the same network cable, so a camera needs only one cable run. Most of our IP cameras support PoE. See the PoE planning guide for budgeting power.
How far can a network cable run?
Standard Ethernet is specified for runs of up to 100 m. For longer distances, use a PoE extender, a switch closer to the camera, or fibre.
Which mount do I need?
Mounts are specific to camera bodies and surfaces. Tell us the camera model and whether it goes on a wall, pole, corner or ceiling, and we will confirm the correct part.
Are the outdoor cameras weatherproof?
Outdoor models carry an IP rating for dust and water and, where stated, an IK rating for impact resistance. Ratings are listed in each product's specifications.
Support
Where do I get firmware and software?
Contact us with the model number and we will send the current firmware and client software for your product.
Can you help design a system?
Yes. Send us a floor plan or a short description of the site, the areas you need to cover and how long you need to keep recordings. We will suggest cameras, a recorder and the accessories needed.
What warranty applies?
Warranty terms depend on the product and are confirmed with your quotation.
